| Class Actions |
 |
Class actions provide a way of bringing a case for a group of
people injured or damaged as a result of wrongful actions of a company.
Such damages can occur as a result of a wide range of actions,
including consumer abuses, commercial actions, predatory lending,
employment discrimination, environmental damage, asbestos damage,
including mesothelioma, shareholder abuses, corporate wrong doing, shortchanging retirement pension and
government fraud.
We have successfully handled major local, regional and national class
actions. Such cases typically require an enormous investment of
attorney time and resources, all with no guarantee of recovery. We have
added, when necessary, attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries to work
full time on such cases — sometimes for years — until their conclusion, based on our conviction
that the case will be successful. For example, we recently handled a major national class action representing all women employees of Rent-A-Center and obtained a precedent setting $47 million settlement.
This level of commitment
to our clients has actually been noted by Federal Judges in
extraordinary language. Speaking of the enormous, many year effort of
the firm in a race discrimination class action, the U.S. District Court stated:
|
"The Court concurs that the record herein demonstrates that Mr.
Schlichter and his firm performed with the highest skill ... This
Court is unaware of any comparable achievement of public good by a
private lawyer in the face of such obstacles and enormous demand of
resources and finances."

In another successful nationwide class
action resulting in a 47 million dollar settlement, another Federal
Judge, speaking of the efforts of the firm stated:
|
"I've never seen an effort like this put forth ... it's beyond an extraordinary effort, an amazing, amazing result."
